Recife and Innovation

Beyond its vibrant culture and privileged nature, Recife plays a significant role in technology and innovation. As the third-largest city in the Brazilian Northeast, the capital of Pernambuco was recently highlighted by the international portal Rest of World as one of the six cities worldwide leading the future of the IT industry. In this domain, Recife stands out primarily for its Porto Digital technology hub and CESAR (Center for Advanced Studies and Systems of Recife).

Porto Digital in Recife focuses on software, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and Creative Economy (CE) services, emphasizing sectors like gaming, cinema-video, animation, music, ph
otography, design, and urban technologies. With an annual revenue of over R$ 4.7 billion, Porto Digital is the result of a tripartite action – government, academia, and companies – and has been recognized by the Brazilian National Association of Promoters of Innovative Ventures (Anprotec) as the best technology park in Brazil.

The 2024 Congress
Panel 1 on August 12th at 4 PM (BRT) will feature the topic The Porto Digital Case Study, with Pierre Lucena, President of Porto Digital, and Chicão Bulhões, Secretary of Urban and Economic Development of Rio de Janeiro.
